Husbands should observe fast for wife’s long life

Bhopal, September 9, 2013 (Muslim Saleem): Chief Minister Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that spirit of sacrifice in Indian women is unparalleled. Women who observe 24-hour fast without food and water for long life of husbands reside in India only. Mr Chouhan was launching Mukhyamantri Women’s Empowerment Scheme at Jawahar Bhavan and inaugurating Mahila Bhavan here today. He also launched the first website developed the country under Integrated Child Protection Scheme. Rules and guidelines for State Dattak Grahan Yojana will be available on this website.

The Chief Minister extended Hartalika Teej’s greetings to women. He said that it is not proper that only women should make sacrifices. He said that arrangement should be made that husbands also observe fast for long life of their wives.

Mr Chouhan congratulated Women and Child Development Minister and her team for outstanding works. Mr Chouhan distributed prizes to winners of Monsoon Magic. He released a booklet on Lado Abhiyan launched to prevent child marriages.

Mr Chouhan also launched 6 websites of Directorate of Women’s Empowerment regarding women’s empowerment. Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Ranjana Baghel said that the State Government has given a new direction to efforts for women and children’s welfare.

Department’s budget was only Rs. 900 crore during year 2003, which has been increased to Rs. 4500 crore now. Due to efforts by the department to control malnutrition, number of highly malnourished children has decreased by 34 percent and malnourished children by 13 percent.

The schemes implemented by the department have been lauded by the State Government. Many states of the country have replicated Madhya Pradesh’s innovations.
